Description
John Wallace was born a slave in Maryland, and moved to Florida after the Civil War. He served in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate in the 1870s and 1880s. In 1884, he was appointed to represent Leon County in the State Committee for the Colored Voters of Florida.
